There are collectives that are growing. When in the middle of a pandemic the workers of an educational institution remain constant in the production of food, then we speak of example and commitment, but also of a sense of belonging. We are referring to the professors, managers and workers of the Tranquilino Sandalio de Noda Polytechnic Agricultural Institute (IPA), located at 8 of the highway to La Coloma, in Pinar del Río. This center, with more than 100 years of creation, has 18 specialized areas, including a cocoa and coffee area, a fruit farm, a nursery, tall beds, seedbeds, medicinal plants, a growing house, organoponics and the livestock module. , with animals of the porcine, bovine-goat, rabbit and poultry species. As explained by Olga Lidia Plasencia Matías, director of the institution, they have an enrollment of 205 students, distributed by years of study and specialties. Agronomy with 47; Forestal, 31; seven of Agricultural Mechanization and 120 of Veterinary Zootechnics. She said they have 54 teaching workers, of them 39 graduates, three engineers and 12 masters in Educational Sciences, in addition to 10 teachers in training who are currently studying for a degree. The IPA has 49.52 hectares, of which 30.75 are cultivable, and among the main productions are vegetables, grains and vegetables, as well as pork and rabbit meat. “We have achieved satisfactory results in the production of tomatoes, with a yield of 250 quintals in 0.50 hectares. Also with cucumbers, onion, aubergine, chard, okra, garlic, leek, chives, beans, rice, corn, banana, pumpkin, chili pepper and sweet potato ”, assured the director.
