The municipality of Trinidad met the estimates for coffee production, with 145.5 tons of gold collected and at the end of the harvest it will contribute another four tons of a grain that is distinguished by quality and has import substitution among its destinations.
Yosvany Borrell Rodríguez, principal coffee specialist at the Trinidad Agroforestry Company, assured that the territory is among the best producers of the grain in the country and more than 90 percent of what is processed is top quality. The foregoing is observed above all in the arabic variety, which is grown in the mountainous area of ??Topes de Collantes, where there are more favorable climatic conditions in terms of shade and temperature to sustain the yields of a line that has the purpose of recovering its weight in the local economy in the middle of the Ordering Task. Borrell Rodríguez pointed out that the figures provided, somewhat lower than the initial commitments, confirm the efforts of the producers who managed to overcome the effects caused by the intense drought during the first half of 2020 and then the damage caused by the tropical storms Laura and Eta. Although with productive levels lower than those of other Cuban territories, this municipality is advancing in the coffee development program designed until 2030 and which provides for the staggered renewal of the plantations in order to improve the yields and the vitality of a crop that is also a tradition among the Trinidadian peasants.
