Vice President of the Republic recognizes progress in self-sufficiency program

The overcompliance with the planting plan of the recently concluded spring campaign was recognized today, in this city, as a plausible achievement of the Guantanamo people in the midst of the rigor of the pandemic, by the member of the Political Bureau and Vice President of the Republic of Cuba, Salvador Valdés Mesa.

Together with the member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Rafael Pérez Fernández, and Emilio Matos Mosqueda, top political and government leaders in Guantánamo, Valdés Mesa analyzed the march of food sovereignty, in particular of the municipal self-supply programs, as well as well as the nutritional education of the population and other aspects. Norge Rodríguez Delgado, Mayor of the second largest municipality in the province, in an aside with the ACN, specified that the period under analysis was positive for vegetables and grains in the town, as 24 rustic houses for cultivation were recovered or rebuilt. Likewise, four community organoponics were inaugurated in cardinal points of the northeastern demarcation: Mabujabo, Jobo Dulce, Toa and Paso de Cuba. The Cuban vice president, who in his speeches underlined the importance of increasing cassava production, as an alternative to importing corn flour and wheat, recognized the results of the expansion of this tuber in the province, whose planting in spring exceeded the planned with two thousand 588 hectares, as well as their stocks.
