The entity's production specialist and FSC project manager, Jesús Peñate Rodríguez, told Tiempo 21 that this will be the first company in the country to opt for certification that supports environmentally responsible management. The Jobabo Carbon-Based Business Unit was chosen because of the great potential of raw material it has, some 64 thousand hectares of marabou, and because it is the largest producer nationwide in the line, he explained. The expert highlighted that the legitimation of the FSC will allow them to access a safer market in the Nordic and Scandinavian countries, high consumers of coal and with a great ecological culture.

The process involves considering 10,000 hectares of marabou, an invasive exotic species, as a valuable forest resource and in this sense a management plan was carried out in monitoring plots to guarantee the sustainability and renewal of the resource. Peñate Rodríguez pointed out that in the previous visit of the specialists no serious non-conformities were detected and currently all the documentation is ready for when the global epidemiological situation allows it and they can travel to Cuba again to finish the work.
