The facility will guarantee the necessary vegetable binder to increase the production of briquettes, which despite its high acceptance in the market, has been affected by the high import prices of starch. Edelsy Martínez Aballe, director of the Base Business Unit in Jobabo, belonging to the Flora and Fauna Vegetable Coal Company, ARDO, told Tiempo 21 that the work is in the last stage of execution and will render at full capacity, one thousand 200 tons of flour annually. With these production volumes, three thousand tons of briquettes could be produced, maximum installed capacity, and there would still be a surplus of flour, which could be used in the production of animal feed, among other uses, he added. Regarding the sustainability of raw materials, he stressed that the coal processing plant generates enough carbon, so the availability of the tuber would be the limiting factor, due to the scarcity of resources for agricultural development and the rigors of the territory's climate. Martínez Aballe, added that the Company for the Protection of Flora and Fauna is committed to guaranteeing the 10 tons of cassava that the flour factory demands per day and in that sense, plantations have been promoted so that they do not affect the volume that is destined to the feeding of the population. Charcoal briquettes are obtained from the compaction of charcoal and an organic binder and their advantages of rapid ignition, greater durability and low smoke, make them highly demanded internationally for use on grills and stoves.
