The Sancti Spíritus Agroforestry Company fulfills its main production commitments and has not recorded economic losses in the first months of implementation of the Ordering Task. At the end of March, this entity had delivered 620 cubic meters of sawn wood to the national balance sheet and to other priority programs, a volume that exceeds expectations. This result is achieved with greater efficiency in the use of energy carriers. "In 2020 we consumed 22 liters of diesel to produce one cubic meter of sawn wood and in the first quarter of this year we managed to do it with only 16 liters, thanks to the organizational measures we adopted and improvements in the equipment we use in the activity" , explained Edelio Torres, deputy director of the company. The Sancti Spíritus Agroforestry Company contributed the 270 cubic meters of roundwood agreed for cultivation houses and homes. Likewise, the production of seedlings in the nurseries for planting trees in the spring is progressing smoothly. “The 600,000 bags are already full and 90% of them have the seed in place, so we are in a position to guarantee the positions to cover the 115 hectares planned for the year and replace the failures in another 260 hectares, whenever the drought has been intense, "says Torres. In order to obtain higher income in freely convertible currency, the company is committed to charcoal, an exportable production that has been recovering and should grow this year, while negotiating to sell sawn timber on the international market. It is also expected to increase the sale of pallets to marketing entities and to the Mariel Special Development Zone. “We sell the pallet kit and the made pallet, which has allowed the company to have income that has been used in the acquisition of chainsaws, their parts and also spare parts for our carpentry”, explains Mario Sureda, administrator of the Gilberto Zequeira unit, located in the city of Sancti Spíritus. In correspondence with the country's need to increase food production, Agroforestal Sancti Spíritus begins with the experience of agricultural modules, whose purpose is to produce food for the self-sufficiency of workers and their families, as well as sale in rural communities where the company's units are located.
