Melissa and the peasant family

The will of Cubans to contribute, starting from production, with the reinforcement of food in health institutions in Villa Clara. An altruistic gesture that multiplies the unity of all.

Melissa, the young woman, swallowed the words. They were not necessary. Her eyes, at times, showed desire to let a tear run down her cheeks, but she chose to pay attention to what was said around her. A thousand memories passed through her mind as she contemplated that scene. Today the girl is happy. She feels the affection of Dr. Anaisa, who claps her shoulders while she whispers from her: «You are a warrior». Others present had a lump in their throats, and even Monguín and Marlén, Melissa's parents, expressed in tears their deep gratitude to doctors, paramedics and service personnel at the José Luis Miranda University Pediatric Hospital in Santa Clara. It is the work of a country, said the humble father of the girl, who recalled aspects of her simple childhood, in which each Cuban received careful medical attention. Today is also an inviolable moment that turns Cuba into a privileged place for the world. Odel (Monguín) Tápanes Moya, years ago one of the best ranchers in the production of meat and milk for sales to the industries, did not hesitate, from the El Porvenir farm, in the community of Wilfredo Pagés, in Cifuentes —of mutual agreement with the wife Marlén Núñez—, in carrying out a commitment, considered minimal compared to a care event that transformed the family's directions. Dr. Jesús Sánchez Pérez, director of the Villa Clara pediatric hospital, upon receiving Melissa and her parents in a different way, affirmed that an unusual event was taking place there. For the first time they welcomed a donation from the family of a former patient. Everything will reinforce the diet of the sick housed in the institution. The doctor's words moved. Marlén and Monguín affirmed that from now on they will not stop other shipments. In Cifuentes, they commented, members of what one day will be the Los Valientes productive movement, will join the link with the institution in free supplies of food, grains and meat. It will not be the work and grace of an altruistic gesture by the distinguished rancher, who voluntarily gave the meat of a dairy bull that exceeded 1,300 pounds. It is the decision of many men and women who, beyond thinking about the 50,000 pesos reported for the sale of the animal in clean mass —53% of the body weight—, think about putting their efforts and personal fruits in the moment and the site that the country demands the most. Today Melissa Tápanes Núñez - a student at the Félix Varela pedagogical headquarters of the "Marta Abreu" Central University of Las Villas, in Santa Clara -, after years of surgical intervention and specialized treatments in the Oncohematology room, shows another smile: permanent satisfaction of a normality that assists her for life. That constitutes the illusion, and does not represent, as Marlén said, a payment for the care services that the young daughter received like any other citizen. It is the decision to contribute, as members of the Filiberto González Mujica Credit and Services Cooperative, not what is left over, but what is had as a unique heritage that brings each other closer to the current scenario of all Cubans.
