Rogelio Saavedra, director of the entity, stressed that the queen bees of each hive are replaced annually, which allows increasing production, taking into account the parameters established by foreign customers. He indicated that the quality of insects is determined through several characteristics, including cleaning habits, the ability to swarm or not, and the bites of the colonies of these species. He pointed out that the province has seven queen multiplier centers, with the obtaining of more than 14 thousand bees per year, which helps to guarantee substitution within apiaries, included among the sectors prioritized in the import substitution programs. He stressed that Holguín is also distinguished by the production of organic honeys from above all the location of the hives in sites free of insecticides, industrial pollution or water, mainly in the coastal municipality of Gíbara, about 30 kilometers from the headwaters. provincial and La Melba, belonging to Moa. The manager highlighted that this year the province has contributed 294 tons of the product, whose main destination in the international market is the European continent, as well as prioritized public health programs and delivery to the Pharmacy and Optical Company (FARMOX) for its use as a raw material in the manufacture of natural medicines. Holguín currently has 178 individual producers and 411 apiaries distributed in its municipalities, whose productions are also used as assortments towards derivatives for obtaining wax, propolis, pollen and jelly, with the necessary technology and human capital that guarantee the quality and variety of this exportable item. The Beekeeping Company also benefits from the modifications of the Ordering Task, which include the payment to the workers of a part of their income in freely convertible currency, which allows the acquisition of inputs and the increase in the price per ton between 35 and 40 1,300 Cuban pesos.
