Medicinal plant crops increase in Cuba
Throughout our country there are 142 farms of medicinal plants, which increase these crops, eleven of them nestled in the mountains and dedicated to the production of sensitive species, which require very specific conditions for development.
The Agricultural Engineer, Lisbeth Abelló Romero, Head of the Medicinal Plants Program, of the Ministry of Agriculture, declared that these traditional productions have taken a very important boom. “Because it has a demand requested by the population, she refers, that we still cannot supply, and we are working to increase our productions. "Today we have 42 species that the Health System demands of us and we are going to continue increasing others, which are requested by the population and have a very important effect on human health and for that we are going to develop them." A tour of the country was carried out, with the aim of promoting this program, which goes beyond increasing productions. "We are trying to increase quality productions, she adds, so that the medicine that is going to come out of these plants really has the properties to cure the population." We see in these farms very beneficial plants for health, for example, the species of linden, cimarrón anise, aloe, oregano, lemon balm, holy cane, ginger, arnica and turmeric, which will contribute to increase the production of natural medicines for our pharmacies .
