Agroforestry drives self-sufficiency program
Las Tunas. - Enlisting various livestock modules and fertile lands to sow and obtain proteins is a task that is well advanced in the Agroforestry company of this province, in order to respond to the self-sufficiency program with the start-up and maintenance of these premises.
In the area of ??La Larga, in the capital municipality, the first enclaves of this type are organized by this forest entity, who in a gradual process intend to recover these sites in the eight municipalities of the territory.
Jorge Luis Padilla Carralero, Director of Development and Business of said company, reported that as part of a schedule that promotes these tasks, a survey of the lands and the optimal spaces for these purposes is carried out in all municipal units, all accompanied by an assessment that estimates how much can be done in terms of the production of food, grains, vegetables and fruits.
The manager assured that the construction of the modules in La Larga is being carried out in an accelerated way, where warehouses for the promotion of pigs, rustic chickens, rabbits, sheep, among other animals that will be destined for the consumption of workers, are recovered.
He explained that planting in the areas is still incipient, but the objective is to accelerate the process, as in the municipality of Majibacoa, where crops are already being grown, the raising of birds is encouraged, and rabbit reproduction is in progress.
Padilla Carralero maintained that these actions will contribute to the company's development program until 2030, so the task is analyzed frequently with a constant check-up on such an important program.
Today it is vital for the Cuban economy that these spaces are recovered and put into operation, because at one point this company came to have about two thousand animals of the sheep-goat genus and another similar amount of pig, meats that were directed for the food for workers and also on commemorative dates foresters were stimulated with proteins of this type.
"The productions we make ourselves should never be abandoned because those are safer," warned the director of development. "Today, when the global context surprises every day with new adversities, it is necessary to guarantee from the local side the alternatives that are possible to face different situations and also contribute to supplying the population in the communities that surround us," he stressed.
