Participants advocated expediting the implementation of the Municipal Self-Supply Program, designed to increase local production of food, vegetables, grains, fruits, and meat.

In this regard, Rafael Pérez Fernández, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the political organization in the province, stressed the need to eliminate obstacles that still hinder the progress of the noble project, still very far from achieving what is essential to satisfy the nutritional needs of the population.

In this regard, he called for work with a greater sense of responsibility and organization, since iron-clad planning must be carried out from the macroeconomy to the groove, when changes in the way of making, producing, distributing and bringing food to each citizen are urgent.

Among the difficulties, the participants mentioned the inefficient contracting and marketing of the productions, which causes the diversion of a large part of these at the hands of intermediaries and resellers who exorbitantly increase their prices to fatten their pockets.

Against these deficiencies, along with the acts of corruption, crimes, illegalities and indisciplines that affect the results of Agriculture, Pérez Fernández indicated that he should raise the fight rigorously and systematically.

For his part, Governor Emilio Matos Mosqueda pondered the potential of the province to promote the economic development of the territory by having important items such as coffee, cocoa and coconut, among others, and outlined priority lines of work to deal with the global crisis caused by COVID-19.

In the plenary session Donna Baños Guerra, coordinator of programs and objectives in the Government, offered updated information on the main economic indicators of the Upper East, to which more than 500 million pesos were reduced with the readjustment of the plan and budget for 2020 because of the deadly pandemic.
