The idea arose several years ago, from isolated individual experiences, although its identification and subsequent training actions began in 2014 through the Science and Technology units of the Agroforestry Research Institute. According to the agronomist Yoandry Pupo Romero, a coffee specialist in the Agroforestry Company of the territory, it is intended to prioritize the municipality of Colombia, since in that region experience of planting the grain on a larger scale is accumulated, especially with two hectares on the farm Anacaona. In addition to the producers already linked to the program, a survey of the owners of the crop and others that could be incorporated in the coming years to reach 2025 with greater promotion of coffee growing in the territory is carried out, taking advantage of the benefits of the Robusta variety. coffee Pupo Romero specified that for the 2020-2021 campaign, the planting of around 35 hectares was organized, distributed among the Agroforestry, Integral Agropecuaria Las Tunas, Agropecuaria Las Tunas and Agroindustrial companies of the Ministry of the Interior. He added that currently the planting of a promising cultivar of Vietnamese origin and certified in the seed bank of the agroforestry company Ataque a Bueycito, of the Granma municipality of Buey Arriba, is becoming widespread. Those from Las Tunas who wish to join the program must be legal landholders, have an area of ??more than two hectares, have a water guarantee and comply with the technical discipline that this area demands. For more information, you can contact your production bases or the specialists of the Agroforestry Company. In addition to growing larger areas to replace imports, the province is promoting the planting of coffee in the patios, dedicated to consumption at home, as part of the National Movement of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture.
