More than 15 foreign investment projects are being carried out in Cuban agriculture
More than 15 foreign investment projects are being carried out today in the Cuban agriculture system, in correspondence with the importance of this sector for food security and the country's economy.
These programs are carried out mainly in the provinces of Havana, Artemisa, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba, in the west, center and east of the island, and together represent an amount of more than 150 million dollars. There are also other proposals in the negotiation stage, Leónides Morales, the director of the UEB Consulting and Business of the Engineering and Projects Company (ENPA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, reported in a recent conversation with Prensa Latina. The official said that these programs have identified partners and are located in the country's provinces and in the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM). Of the more than 15 projects in execution, some are established and operating and others in an advanced stage of negotiation and approval, so they are very close to being constituted. In most of these plans the ENPA has an active participation, as it allows a comprehensive management of them in all their stages, which makes it possible to make them more sustainable and therefore attractive, Morales said. The manager highlighted that the company participates in the main development and investment objectives in all branches of the agroforestry sector and in the different stages of the cycle of these programs, which include foreign investment and collaboration projects. An example is the Organic Coffee initiative that takes place in the eastern part of the Caribbean nation, in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Granma and Guantánamo. The main purpose of this project is to achieve the sustainability of this grain in the national territory, seek new market niches, raise the efficiency indicators throughout the value chain of the aromatic product and the expected levels of production and quality of this precious item.
