Debate on contract farming and the probabilities of application in Cuba
The contract may include information or conditions on how production will take place or whether the buyer will provide inputs such as seeds and fertilizers, financial assistance, technical advice or other support services.
“Without calling it contract farming, which is a new term for us, we do speak of contract in agriculture, which is the same in practice. We do not have a specific law for this, but the contract itself contains a legal commitment. The Law of Sovereignty, Food Security and Nutrition Education is in the process of being approved, a very valuable, very robust instrument, in which, in some way, this aspect of the contract in agriculture is contemplated ". The foregoing was expressed by Armando Antonio Miralles Calvo, Director of Organization, Planning and Information of the Ministry of Agriculture (Minag), in a meeting held at the headquarters itself, as part of the schedule of activities of the National Temporary Working Group for the preparation of the Policy of Integral Management of Cuban Agriculture and its legal instrumentation.
