When young people support

Before and after Tropical Storm Elsa, the encouragement and strength of the young people was not long in coming. The country's leadership summoned them to face the possible damage caused by the meteorological phenomenon after passing through the archipelago and, above all, called on them to recover the products that were about to be harvested as soon as possible, and they did so. This is illustrated by the data provided to this newspaper by the National Bureau of the UJC: 172 brigades with more than 3,500 young people from 13 territories were activated from the municipal and provincial defense councils, who dedicated themselves to collecting hundreds of quintals of food, vegetables and fruits; such as banana, yucca, sweet potato, pumpkin, corn, beans, okra, chili pepper and coffee. The contribution was also evidenced - and continues to be demonstrated - in sugar capping tasks in the central warehouses, in helping gastronomic centers to prepare and distribute food, and in the distribution of medicines to isolation centers and hospitals. They also supported the evacuation of vulnerable people residing in coastal and flood-prone communities, in the insurance and protection of vaccinations, in blood donations, in the guarantee of internal order, as well as in the sanitation of storm drains and sewers, and in cutting down trees and collecting debris. Accompaniment continues to be decisive in tasks related to the Public Health sector in the face of the complex epidemiological situation in the country. The 18,334 students and workers from all the provinces give proof of this, in addition to 44,762 future professionals of the Medical Sciences, who are especially dedicated to supporting the family doctor and nurse in primary health care. It is not only about the active investigation in search of feverish cases and people with respiratory symptoms, but young people also undertake - together with the basic Health team - the visit to the travelers who arrive to the territories and the educational work in community. Summoned by the UJC and student organizations, they have been linked to isolation centers and hospitals, in carrying out PCR, inspection of sanitary measures, washing and packaging of hypochlorite bottles, monitoring of the epidemiological situation in the territories and health intervention with vaccine candidates.
