CPA Renato Guitart Rosell: It marks the vanguard in the coffee recovery
Very picturesque and attractive is the demarcation of Puriales de Las Manuelas, in the Popular Council (CP) La Tabla, in the municipality of Tercer Frente, well recognized by all as the largest coffee producer among its counterparts in the country. There, there are numerous good exponents - individual producers, cooperatives and basic production units - in the efficient development of this precious crop, indispensable for the national economy.
The Renato Guitart Rosell Agricultural Production Cooperative (CPA), founded in 1976, and chaired by José Girón García, is currently executing the project “Sustainable Development of Coffee in Vietnam and Cuba, period 2016-2020” with great efficiency. with a view to promoting coffee development in this mountainous region and leaving behind the old plantations characterized by low agricultural yields and low grain quality.
In the “Renato Guitart”, we work with great agility and responsibility in the production of the positions, which slowly transform the plantations that are subjected this time to a sensible activity of replanting and the promotion of new areas, obtaining biological means for the pest control and technification of cultivation.
"Some of these seedlings seal the spaces of the CPA Renato Guitart, especially one of the coffee plantations of reference, where the good practices of collaboration with Vietnam are noted," says José Girón, president of that peasant structure, with pride, who It argues that the sustained results in sustainability principles, climate change and environmental protection are palpable, through the use of semi-technical nurseries, with irrigation and shading systems.
Up to a development area, located about 360 meters above sea level, we moved to Girón, as it is popularly known among cooperatives. There, a plantation with just three years of planting green, which should have contributed about 100 cans of coffee, however it contributed 1,000 in the last campaign, while the one we were facing already predicted 300 and more than 3,000 should be collected.
There are many factors that influence a productive takeoff and we are at the forefront of coffee recovery, says the president of the CPA, who refers to the quality of the plants that leave the nursery; the Vietnamese seeding system, with holes 80X80 centimeters and about 100 pounds of organic matter; the advice of the specialists of the Experimental Station and the desire to do things well.
For the group, there is no doubt that in this productive efficiency the conscious application of science and technology has greatly influenced, which has contributed to raising agricultural yields, the guarantee of micro-nurseries and technified nurseries, and as if that were not enough technological and experience exchange with specialists from the brother Vietnamese people.
In the CPA, the innovative project of the Anamites is applied to four rehabilitated hectares, says Girón García, who does not give up on reaching the production level of 10,000 coffee cans in a short time.
The diversification of production is also a priority in this structure, which promotes various crops, vegetables, fruit trees, grains and meat, among others, that complement the daily work of a mountain community that radiates economic and social benefits to the community where they rehabilitated grocery stores, family doctor's offices, schools, and other facilities.
The "Renato Guitart Rosell", with some 400 hectares, of these 84 dedicated to the cultivation of coffee, marks the difference between its counterparts since its inception, when a group of peasants from the area joined together to cast luck in favor of marching towards superior forms of production in the field, essentially in abrupt areas of the Sierra Maestra.
