Cooperativists from Cienfuegos produce coffee in the plain and covered tobacco
From the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture to grow coffee in the plain, the Antonio Maceo Credit and Services Cooperative responds, located in this Cienfuegos municipality of Abreus, where two producers already show experiences.
As reported to Radio Rebelde, Modesto Rodríguez, President of the CCS, cooperative member Sabino Chávez, with the support of his family, manages to produce coffee on the plain planted on 0.5 hectares. “Which is already in production, he assures, and from there we are doing workshops together with visits to said producer. We see with our own eyes that they produce coffee in the plain and spreading it to other cooperative members ”. Here Nicolás Dominguez, who tends a fruit farm and also started the grain plantations. "And he will soon have coffee production, he adds, in a fruit farm, but that is in the plain, one hundred percent of our areas are in the plain. “We have two producers who have coffee and are producing it. The objective is to raise the number and that each one of them has at least one number of coffee on his farm, seeking to diversify the production of the grain in the cooperative ”. The Cienfuegos cooperative Antonio Maceo has also managed two hectares of covered tobacco with the same number of producers, for two years. "This is the case of Fidel López, he was the pioneer producer, who planted tobacco in this area and has achieved that the covered tobacco, he adds, has this year very good results in cultivation."
