Among the advances, the creation of two genetic centers for queen bees stands out, one in the municipality of Imías and the other located in the Agroecological farm La Sorpresa, belonging to the Cooperativa de Creditos y Servicios Fortaleizadas Luis Rustán, of Guantánamo, which will favor the higher quality insect breeding and thus higher yields. Likewise, in 2021 the productivity of the farms "El Algarrobo" and "Felo", belonging to the cooperative "Lino de Las Mercedes Álvarez", of the municipality of Guantánamo, increased through a sub-center of queen bees that support the genetic basis of the main genetic center. The first pollen productions from 50 traps installed in five apiaries of organic producers in the Imías territory were also achieved, with the transfer of technology to obtain specialized pollen. As part of the actions for the recovery in the most appropriate climatic zones, the forest cover with honey species around the genetic center of queen bees in Imías was improved by 25 percent. In Guantánamo, work is being done to expand the technological infrastructure, introduce science projects, and generalize existing good practices in favor of apiary management and increasing the queen bee population. Beekeeping in the province has the potential to increase its productions and constitutes the first Cuban territory in the delivery of batches of organic honey, which is rewarded with higher prices in the world market and from which the municipalities of Imías and San Antonio del Sur obtained satisfactory results in 2020.
