Calixteños agricultural workers with great challenges
Voluntary work sessions and job changes aimed at promoting the cold planting campaign and cleaning the crops characterized the activities for the celebration of Agricultural Worker Day, on October 3, in the municipality of Calixto García.
The La Jíquima company group concentrated its efforts on the recovery of the structures of houses of protected crops affected by a local storm, while they proceeded to planting, cleaning and other cultural attentions of the crops in the process of vegetative development. According to statements by Yudelkis Díaz Jomarrón, Secretary of the Union of Agricultural Workers in this municipality, the union is one of the most representative of the territory, in which about 2,250 Calixteños are affiliated, grouped in almost 50 union organizations. Among the most important objectives of this union organization is to support the administration in the implementation of the 63 measures that seek to open spaces for the development of the productive forces in the interest of increasing and diversifying production. Díaz Jomarrón said that the union has been supporting compliance with epidemiological control measures to stop the coronavirus, even though in some groups the impact of the virus has been significant. In the hands of farmers today is one of the highest priorities of the Cuban State: food production, so it will require much more effort and dedication from them in the application of science and technological innovation to achieve better crops with lower costs.
