Villa Clara advances in the slaughter and sale of cattle

After the approval, by the highest management of the country, of the procedure for slaughter, consumption and sale of cattle by the producers; 126 Villa Clara ranchers –of the 157 endorsed for this task in the province– have already managed to commercialize beef.

At the end of last September, around 250 animals were slaughtered - and their meat sold - in the central geography, a figure that will grow gradually as efficiency in this agricultural line improves. Raiza Espinosa Broche, head of the Livestock Department of the Provincial Delegation of Agriculture, told the press that, to date, the municipality of Cifuentes has lagged behind with only two farmers involved in the task, with four animals; while in the remaining 12 territories there are more than 10 heads. He added that of the 18,000 existing cattle owners in Villa Clara (10,000 with more than three cows), only 280 today meet all the requirements established for slaughter, fundamentally, the sustained growth of the herd, with an emphasis on cows.
