Through the rehabilitation of productive agroforestry landscapes, the initiative, developed in Cuba since the end of 2020, seeks to guarantee food security through improved ecosystem services from the use of agroforestry, silvopastoral systems, reforestation and assisted natural forest regeneration. Yoandry Ávila Igarza, president of the Association of Agricultural and Forestry Technicians in Las Tunas, exclusively told the Cuban News Agency that in the municipalities of Jobabo, Amancio and Colombia there will be almost 700 people who will benefit directly in connection with their different forms of production and cooperative organization to establish the modules. Eleven field schools are identified that are committed to becoming training spaces under the concept of “learning by doing”, from a participatory approach to the extension of results, although due to the incidence of COVID-19, actions are concentrated on the training and studies in a virtual way, he pointed out. Ávila Igarza explained that the southern municipalities of Las Tunas, along with four others in the provinces of Matanzas and Villa Clara, will be in charge of transforming traditional productive practices into others more appropriate to respond to climate change, taking into account two elements keys such as mitigation and adaptation. Work is being done on the organization for the hydrological and hydrometeorological study to propose the best interventions in the field of water capture and harvesting, as well as in the identification of spaces for the location of a technified nursery in each municipality that will constitute the main sources of forestry positions to guarantee the demands of each territory.
