The Beekeeping Company in the province of Holguín increases the production of honey for export with the delivery of more than 320 tons until the end of September of this year.

Eddy Infante, head of production of that entity, indicated to the Cuban News Agency that this result represents a 2.5 percent increase compared to the same period of 2020, conditioned by the benefits that the application of the Ordinance Task in this branch of the Agriculture. He explained that sales are also maintained in the Casa de la Miel, an establishment located in the Sanfield district of the provincial capital, where the commercialization of this line of great demand is extended to the population and consolidated as one of the main exportable items of the eastern territory. For his part, Rogelio Saavedra, director of beekeeping, emphasized that the bee honey produced is mainly destined for the European market and within Cuba it is directed to prioritized public health programs through delivery to the Pharmacy and Optical Company (FARMOX ) for use as a raw material in the production of medicines. He indicated that from the Ordering Task, payments to producers were increased, with total values ??between 35 thousand and 45 thousand 300 pesos per ton and the card in freely convertible currency was incorporated as an option to acquire inputs, improve equipment and expand the availability of the product intended for direct consumption, taking into account its nutritional and curative values. Saavedra also referred to the actions to improve the genetics of the hives and extend the ecological honeys, which is achieved from the incorporation of quality queen bees, guaranteed in the seven multiplying centers of the species and the placement of hives in free sites of industrial pollutants. Cuba is one of the Caribbean countries with the greatest potential in beekeeping and has more than 150 thousand colonies of bees distributed on the island, according to the page of the Ministry of Agriculture. Holguín currently has 178 individual producers and 411 apiaries distributed in the 14 municipalities where their assortments are also diversified towards derivatives such as wax, propolis, pollen and jelly with the technology and human capital necessary to guarantee the quality and variety of this exportable item.
