Cuban president analyzes government management in Cienfuegos

At a meeting where Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and other top Cuban authorities were present, Díaz-Canel Bermúdez emphasized that all powers must be given to the municipality so that the entities that produce food in those localities are locally subordinate. Although that autonomy seeks that the municipalities comply with the national and provincial balance and also pay taxes to their inhabitants, he clarified. He indicated how important it is to empower the socialist state enterprise to produce food and achieve an adequate relationship between state entities and non-state forms. He referred to the tense situation with inputs for food production, for which producers must rely on national resources such as native fertilizers, the use of science and innovation. In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca insisted on the wasted potential in Cienfuegos, where -for example- the Vitroplantas Biofactory with capacity for one million positions of food, only works at 40% of its capacities. Food self-sufficiency is not going smoothly in the eight municipalities, with delays in Lajas, Cruces and Palmira. Tapia Fonseca added that they should review the effectiveness of the delivery of land and the use they make of it in terms of producing more. In addition, he pointed out the good experiences in the advances with the productive poles and the livestock modules, not in the consolidation of urban agriculture, in which it is necessary to recover the organoponics. Cienfuegos is making progress in the production of animal feed, with the substitution of imported feed, and in the planting of coffee in the plain, but the reforestation of the old coffee plantations has yet to accelerate. The recovery of the integral pig centers, as well as the growth of the fattening animals and the agreements with producers is still a pending task for the people of Cienfuegos. This meeting concluded in the country the government analysis throughout Cuba of priority issues such as food production, monetary regulation and the confrontation with COVID-19.
